Gripped by the Greatness of GodKey question: When was the last time you were gripped by the greatness of God? When did God last take you to the mat with the reality of who He is, the nearness of eternity and the trivialness of this life by comparison? When was the last time you let God get a grip on your heart? No vague answers to this question, O.K.? Get specific. What year? What month? How long has it been? This isn’t the kind of thing you can forget. Has it ever happened? Please, no guilt here. There was a time in my life when my honest answer would have been, no! My guess is that one reason why people pick up this book is because they want to feel that wonder they once had or else to experience it for the first time. But there is hope. A couple of years ago I longed to see God grip the hearts of people in our church. I love them too much to see them live one more day apart from the grasp of God upon them. To this end, I chose to teach what I believe are the most gripping passages in Scripture. As I prepared and preached those messages, I was shaken afresh by God’s awesome, holy, sovereign character.
