Weigh Down Update

Posted by James MacDonald on May 15, 2007 08:32 AM | Comments (10)

OK, time to practice my preaching here. I didn't lose any weight last week, but I didn't gain. I attribute this to two things. 1) I didn't exercise the way I wanted to. I got very busy during the day and exhausted at night. On my day off and later in the week I walked 18 holes and then I walked once for about 45 min. with Kathy but that is about it. I didn't get to the weights, and I didn't break a sweat. I think the lack of pounds going off must have gotten to me because I gave in for the first time on Mother's Day and had a piece of pecan pie. mmmmmmm!!!!!!

I know from experience that depriving myself totally from all sweets forever will not work, but I also know I am not going to lose much more weight unless I stay off sweets during the 'loss period.' Anyway, I need your prayers, (not your advice :)) as I leave this Wednesday for Romania and then my nephew's wedding in Canada. I will try to give you some updates over the next two weeks. I HAVE TO break out of the 220's into the teens. This has been a historic barrier for me, so I am doubly on it today. Ephesians 6:10 says, "be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might." That's what I'm going for. Not just strength but strength in the Lord. I spoke on that this past week at church from Acts 16. You can hear the sermon for free at www.harvestbiblechapel.org. Thanks for writing and praying and standing with me for honoring God, not just with our mouths and our hearts, but with our bodies too.

I lost 1.2 this week and have been able to start exercising for short periods of time. The exercise makes a big difference in my weight loss numbers.

It's only by His strength that we will succeed.

Have a blessed trip to Romania. I will be anxious to hear how God is continuing to work there.

Hey James

Here's some inspiration: You gotta get down to a good weight before we all hit the amazing buffet at MBC in July!!

Blessings,
Russ.

Be careful in Romania. I have a friend who did a speaking trip there. He said they fed him a complete meal at every house he visited. Courtesy demanded that he never refuse.

Best to listen to that guy posting about Romania. I visted a chair maker there back in '84 to get some field measurements for a job TOH was doing in Gloucester, MA. Bob V. wanted a rocker, and I wanted a wicker back, but that conflict is not really important here now is it. Anywhoo, I was dieting at that time myself and was down to 225# when Romanian customs weighed me in upon entry. They even stamped it in my passport. Then after indulging for a week and buying a new heavy-duty Romanian flannel, I went to board my plane and they weighed me again. 237#! Then they charged me a duty tax on the 12#...at no less than $20 USD per pound! $240 later and I was States-bound. Bob V. thought it was all real funny. Keep up the good work New Yankee...I'm praying for you.

God does for us what we cannot do for ourselves. I learned that from you, my Pastor. I AM praying for you. You will have your goal weight. I know it. By the way, the sermon on Acts 16 was just what I needed to hear on Sunday. I couldn't wait to get home and read it again. Now go pump some Scripture and then pump some iron!!!

Oh James,

Don't focus so much on the 'pie' that you had as much as you focus on the 'amount' of it. The temptation is to 'throw it all to the wind' and have a bigger slice than normal or seconds. But..walk away from the tempatation by deliberately having less than you normally would've. The satisfaction of "having" the pie in the first place is there as is the "knowing" that you stayed in control.

James
I feel your struggle, I to share in your pursuit, I am engaging in my quest so that I can continue to enjoy my love of hiking I have just taken up this pastime and it's not that easy when your packing around useless weight. Keep it up! You can do it.

I weigh myself once a week at the same time. I have lost 17 pounds slowly. the body does not want to give it up. discouragement is satan's foothold. you must exercise regularly and let food diminish in your mind. tough at first, but very strengthening later as you experience the Holy Spirit winning yet another victory in you. God bless you. And thank you!

Hang in there! I'm down 2 this week. Exercise was less than optimal, due to an ankle sprain on Tuesday, but I should be back to it by Saturday. The food journal has kept me more accountable, and kept my eating where it should be. Blessings for your trip - I will be praying for you.
