Walk in the Word Logo Contest RESULTS :)
Posted by James MacDonald on April 4, 2007 10:08 AM | Comments (30)Hey: Well I guess you're all just hanging on the edge of your seats waiting to hear if your entry from the millions received is the actual winner. Great job to everybody who caught the fun spirit and took time to give an entry. Special congratulations to the people who actually made it to getting posted on our website. A lot of pretty sketchy, inappropriate ones had to be totally deleted, ha--just kidding, just a few of those. Major kudos to those of you who made it into the top five and to the Grand Prize Winner. We will be sending you some gifts and . . . drum roll please . . . special congratulations to . . .
We'll start with the honorable mentions:

5th Runner Up: This guy is toally insane, and I don't look very good in the picture, but he did make me laugh out loud. Hey, that's worth something, right? He might have won but in his submittal he said I would never make it to a Wheaties box, yeah, well there's still time . . . I could make it :)

4th Runner Up: I wish I could say this guy road a llama to the Great Wall to get this picture but he probably flew. Kudos to his wife who had to use an interpreter to help the hotel with the technology portion of his posting. She also arranged his transportation etc, what did he do? Right--not as much. That's why he didn't win, but he did come close, very impressive! Mao would have loved it I'm sure.

3rd Runner Up: Hey, this one looked like it might win for a while--this short term missionary put her life at risk to get this elephant to become a Walk in the Word fan. Dumbo might have won, but the award is for a person--we don't have headphones for the iPod that could get around his head.

2nd Runner Up: Clearly his people from Southern California are kind of crazy. Some people wrote in saying they thought he was 'butt-naked.' Hey, clean up your mind, what's wrong with you, we don't post dirty pictures--ha ha. Anyway this guy tells more people about Walk in the Word than anyone in his KWAVE world. If it wasn't true before he took this shot, it certainly is now! GOOOD JOB, Bret!

1st Runner Up: Nice job Sandy. Our former worship leader and staff member here at Harvest is greatly loved and missed by us. Now she is overseas serving Christ but she has not forgotten us. Great to see your class.

Tied for second place, just to be fair, is an amazing school from India where the fame of God's name is proclaimed in a dark, dark world. They translate the Walk in the Word web-broadcast and teach their staff and children all about God's Word and the salvation found in Christ alone. We praise God for you and are honored to be in ministry partnership with you.
These folks all win:

And drum roll, please . . . .

#1 Grand Prize Winner:
Hey soldier, you stud, you're the winner! Serving your country and following your Savior--is there a better combination? We were all just blown away to see you there feeding your hungry heart. Our prayers are with you, be safe and be "strong in the Lord and in the power of His might." YOU WIN!
And here's what you win . . .

Along with the entire Walk in the Word library on Mp3.
Thanks to everyone in the Walk in the Word family for 'igniting passion in the people of God through the proclamation of truth.' You rock!

Great choice of a winner, Pastor James! I loved seeing all the entries and feeling such a connection with God's people all over the country and the world. It's so great to share the passion of hearing God's Word powerfully preached. Thanks for all you mean to all of us.

I listen to Walk in the Word on KATB in Alaska. I always thoroughly enjoy your messages in the morning while putting my youngest son on the bus for school in the morning. Nice choice for a winner for the contest! Alaska's lost more brave men per capita in Iraq & Afghanistan than any other state in the union.
God Bless...
Mark 16:6 "Don't be alarmed," he said. "You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.

Hey Walk in the Word. It is so exciting to see how the message of the Word is being broadcast and heard around the world. I love to know that there are fellow believers literally everywhere listening to the Word and spreading the good news. Happy Easter.

I'm a cop, and I was going to do a fun pic involving a jail cell and some Tasers. But after I saw the soldier, the scuba divers, and the parachute pics, I knew I couldn't win.
Hey, how about another contest with another ipod and all the sermons? One that I can win?
Posted by: alice | April 5, 2007 06:32 PM
Great! I picked the soldier, too. I know he's in a difficult place, but I know that God is doing a tremendous work in the hearts of our young men as they get a close-up on evil and the desperate need for Jesus.

Hey James, I would like to thank you for picking me as the winner of the IPod. The Lord is doing great things over in Iraq. I thank the Lord for all of the prayers that I received while I was over there. Have a great time in the presence of the Lord. Isaiah 41:10

Great pick! I am so glad you chose someone we can all be glad about! He reminds me that we need/ I need to pray for him and his fellow soldiers daily...and that his life will be a precious witness of God's grace and goodness to all those around him who are in harm's way for US. My son and family posted with you, and their pic was great, but I gotta say, good choice!! Cathy change partner

Pastor James,
I saw on your website you were having a contest...
Walk in the Word Logo.....where it could be found....just so you know, I woulda won the contest but did not think it was fair cuz I attend Harvest so I thought i would keep it open to the public.....
But, this is what I (we) had for you.......
I work for the state. I am a head hunter for prisoners. When they get out I get them jobs..........ya, ya..So the state comes up with this neat idea to have a "Family Celebration" to help the guys reconnect with family and society......Being a women I thought we should have a theme, girls like that kinda stuff........So, I called it..."Hug-a-Thug!' It was last Sat and a great success. We even had Cookies by Design donate cookies that had men as the cookies and in the middle it said "Hug a Thug!"
We had shirts and mugs......Yes, even a hug a thug mug.......So, in the middle of our group HUG, we had the Walk in the Word Logo....with the hug a thug cookies......
I know you would of hooted!
Thugs, hugs, cookies and Walk in the Word! God is so good!
But, I could not send the picture, cuz the models (ha) did not sign a release. I know we woulda won......So, just thought I would say all that to say this.........
What size shirt would you like from the HUG A THUG event?
I will even throw in a free Hug a Thug Mug for you Pastor James!

I don't get why a soldier trained to kill gets rewarded.
Editor: Yeah, apparently there's a lot of things you don't get, WOW!!! :) Start with Romans 13 and the responsibility we have to submit to human government. Then review the historic discussion on civil disobedience and when it is or is not appropriate. Then review the historic consensus on what the Bible teaches about 'just war.' Then when you have all that done, take a moment to give thanks to God for a soldier/Christian who went to do his God-given duty. That should do it. :)

Pastor James,
Just wanted to let you know there are a lot of us over here in Iraq listening to you. I download your podcast everyday so that I can listen when I get back from my missions. I wanted to enter the contest and I was going to have a picture made in front of one of the medevac helicopters because I have a friend over in that unit. I thought that would be cool to have a Blackhawk in the background. I was home on leave during the contest and did not get back until the 30th so I did not have time to get the picture made and send it to you. The amazing thing is that I am currently serving in Kirkuk, Iraq and on April 2 terrorists detonated a truck bomb on the police station where I was working. I found myself a patient flying in the same helicopter I wanted to use in the picture. Go figure. God has been absolutely so evident in my life and in the lives of my family. I spent the last few days in the hospital telling people about the providence of God and how He uses events like this in our lives to grow us and change us. I was able to share the love of Christ with so many people I would never have come in contact with if not for this event. As one of the other posters stated, God is doing wonderful things in Iraq in the lives of these young men and women. They are flying me home for a little while to recouperate but I plan on returning as soon as the doctors release me. There is still much work to be done for the Lord over here and the guys I work with are interested in a Bible study I was planning to teach. (I was a pastor before I came over here.) Keep preaching the Word and I will keep listening and striving to apply it every day. Love you my brother.

RE: Dave Posting, about why a Soldier who is trained to kill should win.
Dave besides the reasons stated by the Editor which by the way I do agree with. Dave even David one of the greatest men of the Lord had to kill when faced by someone who would not yield to the voice of reason. Please lets clear something up first, our soldiers are trained to defend against and defeat those that oppose them. To win, to obtain victory. To take human life without reason or cause is not what our Soldiers do. Evil wins when good men and women do nothing. Once you have lived under a government like that which formerly ruled in Iraq and other countries like that only than can you judge correctly that which must be done. When you know everything, only then you can judge and no one ever can. That is why judgement is left to the Lord, so chill and let our Father do his job. Best Wishes to you and your family may they always enjoy the freedom this young man protects for you and them. Alan

Great Pick!!!! It is refreshing to see Christians willing to give of themselves for a greater cause.
I wish those seeking to cut off supplies and equipment to our soldiers based their reasoning on Truth rather than political points.

I WANTED HIM TO WIN THE WHOLE TIME!!!! AWESOME PICK!!
GOD IS GETTING HIM THROUGH!! I HAVE PRAYED FOR HIM SINCE SEEING HIS PICTURE!! GLORY TO GOD!!!

Dear Pastor James,
It was a great choice for the winner of your contest; however, the second photo of the skydiver was NOT a great choice and concerns me as a believer in Christ.
I know you said, "Clean up your mind", for those who said, "It looks like he's butt-naked." But if you’ll look a little closer...he is! Whether it's a body suit or the "real thing", it's still completely inappropriate to display on a Christian website. God instructs us in His word to think upon those things that are pure and lovely, not the things that are "questionable".
I don't think you should pass this off as a joke, because it gives people the idea that other things of this nature are also funny, which could lead people to thinking that it's okay to compromise their faith – once in a while. It doesn't take much to push that first "domino", before the entire line falls down.
And no, I'm not a "prude" or someone who doesn't like to laugh; actually quite the opposite. But I know in my spirit when I see things that do not glorify our Lord.
I suggest that the next time you display something on your website you take a moment to ask yourself, "Does this glorify God?†The answer shouldn't be too difficult to find.
"To Him be the glory, both now and forever!" (2 Peter 3:18)
Anne
Editor:
Anne, we just think you're wrong, we don't see it the way you do, we don't think it's anything other than a tight pair of slacks. Your words are true based on your opinion of what you're seeing, our choice is also legit based on what we see. Let's leave it at that. Surely you know we agree with everything you have written about God's glory just not the application you are making here. End of story, thanks for writing.

CONGRATULATIONS, SOLDIER!! It brought tears to my eyes to see you with your Bible beside your bed. I pray God continues to bless and protect you. Blessing to you, pastor James, for making such a glorious choice. Thanks for the fun!!

Re: Editor's reply to Dave's posting, about why a soldier who is trained to kill should win.
Dear Editor,
It is possible to disagree with someone without being disagreeable about it. As you mention, the question of whether Christians should participate in the military has been debated for a couple millennia. There are Conscientious Objectors who love Jesus just as much as you do, but have come to a very different conclusion on this topic. It grieves me to see Christians fighting for their political and cultural views as strongly as they defend the gospel. Let’s not major on the minors.
Editor: Is was not the position of passivity that was distained it was the tonality of the comment in the first place. Let's review what they said about our contest winner, a soldier overseas doing what he believes is right. "I don't get why a soldier trained to kill gets rewarded."
That is such a crappy comment. Just because a person chooses to conscientiously object does not give them freedom to clearly imply that a person with a different position is a murderer. That's why they got hammered, we totally respect those who are convicted against war, just not when they go to war against the soldier or us for honoring him. Clear?

Love the soldier pic! We are a military family and my husband just returned from his year-long tour in Iraq. Like some of your other "post-ers", Walk in the Word was a mainstay for us (yeah for pod-casting!)- so was "Our Journey." Your messages were encouraging- the last year was one of the most difficult experiences of our lives. In one of your messages Pastor James, you spoke of what it meant to endure- and now I know exactly what that means. When your loved one "crosses the wire" every day, out into streets filled with danger, there is nothing anyone can do for you to take away that fear. I had to learn to give it to God- every single day- and sometimes every hour.
God Bless our Armed Forces and their families. God Bless Walk in the Word.

I was so blessed to see the pic of the soldier as the logo contest winner -- proclaiming his stand for God's Word right there in the land where God started it all! To be so bold to be so outward for his love of the Word, right there "in front of God and everybody!" 18" from his bunk mates in a military environment where being a Christian may not seem to most to be too cool. You go guy! (Pastor James--I do wish you wouldn't have used "stud" as a descriptor for this brave Christian soldier...it seems like that is not a complimentary word or a reputation to be desired by a man of God. I'm not a prude, but that just really jumped out at me!) You bless me daily through WITW, Our Journey, RBC ministries. You are very important in my spiritual life. Your family pic from a few years ago is on our fridge along with others in His service that we pray for regularly. Love you in the Lord, brother.

Hi! I've read, with enjoyment, the 26 prior comments - from April to May -and it's now Sept.(neet I still get to comment), and I just wanted to say, "THANK YOU!". I wish I had submitted, just so that my state of, New Hampshire, was among the listing! Your winner pic brought a smile, and I did like the, 'stud mention', since it made me look at him again, and think,'oh-yah,the guy is good looking, what a bonus!' Thank you also, for this totally-terrific website! God Bless you all! Psalm 103:5

Valerie is not alone, excellent choice for grand prize, and I having been laughing, as well as fighting back the tears reading the posts. To everyone, and especially to those who volunteer to serve our country, God bless you all. Pastor James, this family ROCKS!!!!

i totally agree with Alun and the Editor regarding poor Dave`s comments,God Bless Him. The soldier is not trained to kill but to defend, he is defending the rights of freedom and liberty , we would not have the right to pray and honour God as we do or even post on this sight if not for tose soldiers defending our right to praise God.Remember" greater love hath no man than that he lay down his life for his friends and John 3:12.Thank-you winner and Buddy Riddle, we are all winners, Hallelujah.

Just in case there are other logo contest late viewers, like myself, the skydiver guy named Brett is completely clothed. You can see a very clear picture of him getting onto the plane in his blue and orange pants in the contest entry section - geesh.
As for the winner, truly amazing!! My husband and his son were in Baghdad for over a year...so this photo brought tears to my eyes.
May God truly bless each and every person in your ministry!
